Nothing being done for the 401

Dear Editor,

Many Oshawa and Durham residents travel to work in Toronto every day. As we all know, it is a brutal drive. What I find maddening is that there is all this money for construction of a toll road (Highway 407), but nothing is being done to improve the free Highway 401.

We need improvements to the 401 at least from Harmony to Salem. The easing of congestion as soon as you get to Ajax is proof of the need for the planned (when?) expansion of the 401.

Queen’s Park should be working on this now. Even with a deficit, studies have shown better traffic flow will help business and increase productivity of the workers. That’s good for our sluggish economy. Durham has been short-changed on routes into Toronto, particularly the 401, for too long.
