New faces, same coverage

By Joel Wittnebel/Column

As Bob Dylan says, the times they are a changin.

Here at The Oshawa Express, it’s no different, as we say goodbye to a loyal scribe and welcome a new face inside our offices.

I’d welcome myself, but many of you will have seen my byline in these pages for some time now and it’s going to remain that way for a while longer as I step into the editor’s chair.

I am incredibly excited to take on this new role at a newspaper that (I feel) continues to play a vital role in the growth and development of this city. Our schtick here at The Express has always been to tell it like it is, and the news coverage, features and stories inside these pages you will not find anywhere else in this city. For that reason, I appreciate your loyal readership and I hope that we can continue to do this great work together. I say together because we journalists are only half of the equation that make up a newspaper. Your stories and your interactions with your city are what fill these pages, for better or for worse.

If you want to get in touch, send a letter, or just say hello, send a note to editor@oshawaexpress.ca

Now, I will take this chance to welcome the latest addition to our news team. Dave Flaherty, joins us from Hanover, where he’s been sharpening his skills as a reporter for the last year. Previously in Goderich for over two years and Lindsay for five, Dave is well versed in municipal reporting. His experience covering a wide array of issues and community stories will be vital as he steps into covering Region of Durham council and whatever else this community tosses his way. To welcome Dave to town, or if you’ve got a story idea, send him a note at dflaherty@oshawaexpress.ca

Whatever it is, I’m confident he’ll be able to handle it.

With all that said Oshawa, things may have changed a bit around here, but I promise you can continue to expect the same great coverage from your favourite weekly newspaper. As our saying goes, “well written, well read.”

On that vein, things never change.
