Murder victim died from stab wounds

Police have confirmed that a woman found dead on Monday is the second homicide victim of Durham Region in 2017.

The victim, identified as Cotie Weekley, 31, was found dead by Durham police at a residence on Simcoe Street North near Coates Road on Jan. 23. A post-mortem examination has confirmed that Weekley died as a result of stab wounds.

Police also say a male at the house has been taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries that have since stabilized. Police also say that, following investigation, that those injuries have been determined to be self-inflicted.
