Multiple charges filed after man flees from cops

Two people have been arrested after a male stole a vehicle, crashed it and lead police on a foot chase.

Shortly after 5 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 16, police responded to a single-vehicle crash in the area of Westney Road and Pickering Concession Road 8. Inside the vehicle, police found two people, later learning one of them was wanted by police. However, the male suspect ran from the scene into a nearby field.

Less than an hour later, police were notified that a suspect had broken into a home on Pickering Concession Road 8. When police arrived, they located the suspect attempting to flee in a stolen vehicle. He was arrested.

A 31-year-old male of Oshawa has been charged with two counts each of possession of property obtained by crime and theft of a motor vehicle, along with one count each of obstructing police, theft under $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, break and enter, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and possession of a controlled substance.

Police say the male suspect is also being charged in connection with a car jacking Jan. 25 on Laval Drive in Oshawa.

According to police, a man got into his car at a plaza at Stevenson Road and Laval Drive just after 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 25. It was then that an unknown male approached him and threatened to stab him if he didn’t get out of the vehicle. The victim got out of the car and the suspect got in and headed east on Laval towards Stevenson.

The male suspect is facing seven charges in connection with this incident, including theft of a motor vehicle and uttering threats.

A 24-year female of no fixed address was charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 in connection with the incident in Pickering.
