More money needed for roof upgrades

Extra work being done on a regional transit facility is going to result in extra costs.

In a report presented to the regional works committee, councillors are being asked to give approximately $150,000 in additional funds for mechanical upgrades and a roof replacement at Durham Region Transit’s facility on Raleigh Avenue in Oshawa.

The extra funds, which were approved by the committee, brings the budget of the project up to a little more than $1 million.

According to the report, the extra costs can be attributed to a number of factors, including approximately $87,000 for putting in new skylights that were originally to be reused, approximately $37,000 for removing lead paint and a little more than $14,000 for upgrading the facility’s gas regulator.

Regional council initially approved this project, along with the construction of a new facility for the eastern stretches of the region, in 2013 with a total budget of $31.3 million.
