Men charged with racing following death of cyclist in August

Durham Regional Police investigators have charged a 32-year-old Oshawa male after a young female cyclist was struck and killed in August.

On Aug. 2, police responded to a motor vehicle collision on Adelaide Avenue east of Harmony Road in Oshawa.  A black Ford Crown Victoria was heading eastbound on Adelaide when it clipped an eastbound blue sedan, lost control, and left the roadway, striking a cyclist who was riding westbound on Adelaide.  The cyclist, a 26-year-old Oshawa female, was injured and later died in hospital.

On Oct. 28, the driver of the Ford was arrested and charged by police.

The 32-year-old male of Rideau Street in Oshawa is charged with: dangerous driving causing death, careless driving and racing a motor vehicle.  The accused was released on a promise to appear.

Police say the investigation into the collision is still ongoing and they are still seeking a second vehicle involved in the collision.  The vehicle is described as a blue sedan with black tinted windows, which was seen travelling eastbound towards Townline Road moments after the collision.  The vehicle is believed to have damage to its front left fender.
