Mayor: Change needed on food truck licensing

The current system for licensing restaurants and food trucks is unfair at times, says Mayor John Henry.

The current system, which sees owners pay annual fees totalling $225, can be a challenge for those businesses looking to start up near the end of the year.

For example, a company that pays a fee to start up in December would be required to pay the same annual fee again in January.

“In fairness, paying for a license, really for one month, is a bit of a challenge,” Henry said.

He’s asked staff to look into the possibility of changing the system to a pro-rated model, or to have businesses pay their fees on an anniversary basis each year.
