Man reported as missing before death

A man found deceased in a vacant Oshawa apartment one week before Christmas had previously been reported as missing to police.

The body of 31-year-old Jeffrey Allan Johnston was found by the owner of the building at around 4 p.m. on Dec. 17. Durham Regional Police confirmed Johnston’s death as the region’s ninth homicide of 2017.

A post-mortem was conducted and the results determined the cause of death to be “sharp-force trauma.”

DRPS spokesperson George Tudos told The Express Johnston had been reported missing

shortly before his passing.

He was identified as a resident of Oshawa but no specific address has been released by police.

Police continue to investigate and Tudos says there is no suspect information to release at this time.
