Man charged after handgun seized in Oshawa

A 27-year-old Oshawa man faces gun charges after police located a handgun in his possession.

On Sept. 14, at approximately 10:50 a.m., members of Central East Division on patrol observed a male chasing another individual with a baseball bat in the area of Simcoe Street North and Richmond Street East in Oshawa. The suspect was observed running into traffic chasing a male party prior to officers stopping him from striking the victim. Officers, who later found a loaded handgun and numerous drugs in his possession, arrested the suspect.

A 27-year-old man of Simcoe Street in Oshawa is charged with careless use of a firearm, unauthorized possession of a prohibited firearm, possession of prohibited firearm knowingly not holding license, two counts of possession of a prohibited firearm with ammunition, possession of firearm contrary to prohibition order, five counts of breach of recognizance, three counts of breach of probation order, assault with a weapon, weapons dangerous and two counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking. He was held for a bail hearing.
