Local cop faces sex charges

An 11 year-old veteran of the Durham Region Police officer has been charged with sexual assault.
The service’s Professional Standards Unit (PSU) commenced an investigation earlier this month when an allegation by an adult female was brought forward regarding the conduct of an off-duty officer.
As a result of the investigation, the 40-year-old officer, has been charged with sexual assault. He was released on a promise to appear.
A constable currently assigned to West Division, Stelwagen has been suspended from duty. He has been an officer with DRPS since 2007.
