Incinerator investigation not transparent

Dear Editor,

At election time, and periodically during convenient grandstanding outbursts from our regional councillors (some, not all), we hear about “accountability,” “transparency” and references to “the public good.” Why then do we see our politicians slink off behind closed doors to discuss the ever-present incinerator issue?

When citizens called them out on this fact, they then opt to discuss having an “ombudsman” to oversee these shady (in my opinion) tactics, and the public complaints.

Will they send the matter to our provincial ombudsman? No. Doing that would release their iron-fisted grip on the problem. They would rather toy with the idea of hiring someone; someone who would, in effect, investigate their own employer!

How would that be accountable? How would that be transparent? C’mon folks, get real!
