Historic weekend for men’s hockey

For the first time in program history, the UOIT men’s hockey team went 2-0 at the York Invitational as they defeated the hosts 5-1 on Sept. 17.

Traditionally, the Ridgebacks have not performed well at the tournament, with last year being a prime example as they lost their opening game 9-2 to Toronto. But coming off a year where the team won their first OUA playoff series, the Ridgebacks seem to be playing with a lot of confidence heading into their 10th season.

Transferring from St. Thomas University, Tyson Teichmann saw his first action of the preseason in goal for UOIT and made six saves in each period. The Belleville native allowed one York power play goal that came four minutes in the final period.

Loren Ulett and Mitch Bennett each had two goals while Cameron Yuill rounded out the scoring.
