A native of Detroit, Michigan, Jalen Smereck played minor hockey for the Little Caesars Bantam AAA team from 2010-2012 before becoming a part of the Oakland Jr. Grizzlies organization. From 2012-2014, Smereck played for the Grizzlies U16 and U18 programs and amassed 34 points to go with 124 penalty minutes (8 goals, 26 assists) in 77 games.

Smereck then went on to join the Bloomington Thunder of the USHL, a league that has produced many former and current NHL players. Smereck made the decision after being selected in the first round, 18th overall by the Thunder in the 2014 USHL Entry Draft. Smereck recorded three goals and 15 assists for 18 points in 51 games in the 2014-2015 season with the Thunder before making the decision to join the Generals.

The Generals selected Smereck in the 15th round, 299th overall back in 2013 and are excited for what he will do in the future for a rebuilding Generals program. Smereck recorded his first OHL point, an assist, on Matt Mistele’s first period, game-winning goal, in just his fourth game with the Generals.
