Jacob Graves played for the Toronto Titans Midget AAA team in the GTHL when he was selected in the fourth round (76th overall) in the 2011 OHL Priority Selection. Graves started the 2011-2012 season playing for the Mississauga Chargers of the OJHL before he was called up by the OHL’s Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors for the remainder of the season. Graves recorded his first career OHL point, an assist, on January 6, 2012 against the Brampton Battalion. The 2012-2013 season was Graves’ first full OHL season with the, newly named, Mississauga Steelheads. The 2013-2014 season which included Graves’ first career OHL goal, proved to be the year where Graves showed his defensive talents and earned him a spot in one of the top defensive pairings.
Graves built up his OHL reputation as a physical, stay-at-home defenceman. That reputation attracted interest from the Kingston Frontenacs who acquired Graves just days before the start of the 2014-2015 season. Graves’ season with the Frontenacs came to an end after they met the 2015 Memorial Cup Champions, Oshawa Generals, in the first round of playoffs. The Frontenacs took the Generals to four games before succumbing to the eventual CHL Champs at GM Centre. Little did we know, that the next time Jacob Graves stepped back on the ice at GM Centre, he would be a General.
The Generals added Jacob Graves to the team in August 2015 to help defend their Memorial Cup title. Jacob is brother to former Oshawa General forward, Josh Graves.
