Free trade deals bad for sovereignty
Dear Editor,
Regarding the TPP and the media coverage of the free trade deal with the European Union on the same day, it should be noted that it was never about “free trade” and the exchange of goods, but always about a “free market,” and the buying and selling of goods to serve the needs of an unsustainable monetary system which needs growth to remain viable.
What so-called free trade agreements have done since NAFTA is to undermine the sovereignty of nations in favour of empowering corporations.
The disintegration of the EU is a prime example of the damage that can be done by eroding national sovereignty.
In these trying times, the ides of March and the dying phases of the Third Industrial Revolution, it will be important to remember the dying phases of Rome.
