Elected officials are part of the problem

Dear Editor,

During the Jan.8, 2018 public input portion of the City’s 2018 Operating Budget process, it was revealed and acknowledged by staff that the proposed total budget of $146 million included $93.3 million for salary and benefit costs for a total of 766 full time employees.

This works out to a $121,800 cost per person-including salary and benefits.

It is the responsibility of the Mayor and Council to deliver mandated services to Oshawa residents at the least possible cost as reflected in their property taxes.

Our elected officials are either part of the solution or part of the problem in controlling costs.

In consideration of the above per person cost, it is clear our officials are part of the problem.
