Double OT losses in two straight games

The UOIT men’s hockey team went to double overtime for the second time in less than 24 hours on Oct. 1. Unfortunately for the Ridgebacks, the result ended the same way with the York Lions leaving the Campus Ice Centre with a 2-1 victory.
On Sept. 30, UOIT dropped a 3-2 decision to the RMC Paladins, also in double overtime.

York’s Greg Milner scored the game-winner 2:24 into three-on-three double overtime, beating UOIT goaltender Brendan O’Neill for just the second time in the game.

Alex Yuill scored the Ridgebacks lone goal, tying the game up at 1-1 with 27 seconds remaining in the first period. Tyler Mayea and Ben Blasko picked up assists on the play.

UOIT wraps up preseason action with a 2-1-2 record, which includes splitting action with the Lions.

The Ridgebacks will be in the spotlight for their conference opener as the Ottawa Gee-Gees hockey program returns to the OUA. Ottawa’s home opener will take place on Oct. 7 at the Ottawa Minto Sports Complex with puck drop set for 7:30 p.m. The game will also be featured on OUA.tv.

UOIT’s home opener will take place on Oct. 14 against the Laurentian Voyageurs.
