Donate blood on Family Day
Canadian Blood Services asks donors to roll up their sleeves in support of those in need
Canadian Blood Services is asking potential donors to give blood on Family Day at the Oshawa Donation Centre.
Half of Canadians have received blood or know someone who has received blood for a healthcare need. However, only four per cent of eligible donors sustain Canada’s blood supply.
Statutory holidays lead to typically lower bookings for blood donations despite the constant need for blood. On-going blood donation is essential in order to collect platelets, a vital blood component which expires after a week, and many patients living with cancer or a blood disorder may need for treatment.
Canadian Blood Services’ Oshawa is located at 1300 Harmony Rd. N. The donor centre will be open on Monday, Feb. 17 from 3 to 7 p.m., and 45 appointments are still available.
Donors can book by visiting blood.ca, calling 1-888-2-DONATE, or using the GiveBlood app on mobile devices.
People who are unable to donate blood can give financially, volunteer, and encourage others in their network to support Canada’s Lifeline.
