Donald Trump scares me!

Bill FoxBy Bill Fox/Columnist

I’m told that people in Germany can clearly see the similarities between Adolf Hitler and Donald Trump. I never really gave it much thought until I looked closer at the similarities.

Hitler used racism to rise to power. Trump has shown over and over that he too is racist. Whether it is Mexicans or Muslims, he has stereotyped all “foreigners” into the same scary threat to the U.S.

Hitler proposed mass deportations. Trump is adamant that Canada has made a huge mistake, taking in so many refugees and has alluded to the fact that this might be a threat to American security. If elected president, Donald Trump says he would create a “deportation force” to carry out his pledge to expel more than 11 million people from the United States, because they lack government permission to be there. He says he would do this within two years. Now the vast majority has never harmed anyone. On the contrary, many have taken on jobs that Americans don’t want and they’ve produced and purchased goods and services, not to mention enriching their communities.

Hitler promised to make Germany great again. Trump promises to make the U.S.A. great again also.

Hitler was an anti-Jew fascist. Trump is an anti-Muslim fascist. Actually, Hitler used propaganda to say that all Jews were a threat to the well being of Germany to gain politically by striking fear into the population.

Trump is taking a whole religion and pinning them all to be terrorists because Americans are scared of them, so he’s using this for his own political gain. Trump, at every opportunity, will try to have Americans believe that Muslims are the great enemy of the U.S. Unfortunately because we are so closely allied to the American Press, there are many Canadians who now feel similarly about Canada. I know that I will get some emails denouncing this column and telling me I am naïve.

Hitler blamed Jews for Germany’s problems, while Trump has put the blame squarely on immigrants for the problems of the U.S. I guess it was all those guns they brought with them?

All Jews, Hitler felt, should wear special IDs. Trump would like to see all Muslims also wear special IDs to make them stand out more.

Maybe money does talk, but Trump is not the great financier that many believe. In 1988, he bought Eastern Airlines, but defaulted to his creditors by 1992.

In 2005, Donald opened Trump University, but it closed six later amid a flurry of lawsuits and allegations of fraud. In 2007, there was such a thing as Trump Steaks, and he had his own Vegas steak house. It was forced to close behind 51 health code violations.

Our prime minister was asked about Trump and gave this very diplomatic reply to a reporter: “I don’t think it comes as a surprise to anyone that I stand firmly against the politics of division, the politics of fear, the politics of intolerance or hateful rhetoric,” Justin Trudeau said. “If we allow politicians to succeed by scaring people, we don’t actually end up any safer. Fear doesn’t make us safer. It makes us weaker.”

Trump has already won, even if he loses. He has now become the face of the racists, as well as wealthy right wing establishments, as he poisons young minds into thinking he has the answers…and it’s about immigrants and foreigners and making Mexico pay for that wall…and those ideas will live on well beyond the election.
