Cyclist dead following collision

A 26-year-old female cyclist who was struck by a motor vehicle on Adelaide Avenue in Oshawa has died.

On Friday, Aug. 4, 2017, Emily Sharon Shields of Oshawa was pronounced dead after being taken off life support.

The collision, which occurred on Aug. 2, saw members of the DRPS East Division called to serious motor vehicle collision on Adelaide Avenue near Blackthorn Street in Oshawa around 6:30 a.m.

A black Ford Crown Victoria sedan was heading eastbound on Adelaide from Harmony Road when it lost control and struck Shields who had been riding westbound on Adelaide. The vehicle then entered the north boulevard where it struck a large tree.

An investigation into the collision is still on going. Police are seeking a second vehicle that may have been directly or indirectly involved in the collision. The vehicle is described as a small blue sedan with black tinted windows. This vehicle was eastbound on Adelaide Avenue just prior to the collision and was last seen travelling eastbound toward Townline Road.
