The city is looking to celebrate the record-breaking hockey season of the Oshawa Generals, planning a parade for June 2.

Following their Ontario Hockey League Championship win and the hoisting of the J. Ross Robertson Trophy, the Generals are now in Quebec City to compete for the Memorial Cup.

Mayor John Henry says the city wants to honour the team upon its return.

“This has been an amazing year for the Generals,” Henry said. “The city has really come alive.”

Staff will be coordinating the event, with no location or time provided, but a budget of $10,000 has been set.

The Generals’ season brought thousands of spectators to the General Motors Centre, seeing more than 4,000 fans nearly every home game.

Councillor Doug Sanders says the event will be a great opportunity for people to show their support.

“I just think that it’s amazing,” Sanders said during the regular meeting of council on May 19, adorned in his Generals jersey. “It would be a great opportunity to come out and support (our) homegrown hockey team.”

The city also started flying the Oshawa Generals flag at city hall, raised during the team’s final series with the Erie Otters.
