Be ready for anything

With the warmer summer weather comes the potential for emergencies, including severe thunderstorms and tornadoes. And the region is reminding residents they need to be ready for a worst-case scenario.

“Education and preparedness are your best defense for reducing the impact of an emergency situation. The region and its local area municipalities have emergency plans and programs in place. However, your own disaster planning is also essential,” a news release from the Durham Emergency Management Office reads.

“Residents are encouraged to keep their at-home emergency kit stocked.”

To get more details about what should be in your emergency kit, or to get a copy of the updated “Are You Ready?” brochure, call 1-800-372-1102, ext. 2792, visit Durham.ca/demo, or pick it up in person at regional headquarters at 605 Rossland Rd. E in Whitby.
