By Chris Jones/The Oshawa Express

According to a recent Canadian rent report from PadMapper, Oshawa is the ninth most expensive rental market in all of Canada.

The report, which analyzed hundreds of thousands of listings across the 24 largest cities in the country, indicates that the median rental price for a one-bedroom apartment in Oshawa is $1,150, while the median rental price for a two-bedroom apartment is $1,300.

The price of one-bedroom apartments in Oshawa has risen 11.7 per cent since this time last year, and 3.6 per cent since October.

Oshawa is tied with Calgary with for ninth place, with Kingston and Hamilton falling out of the top ten.

The top five most expensive markets are Toronto, Vancouver, Burnaby, Montreal, and Barrie respectively.

In Toronto the median rental price for a one-bedroom apartment is $2,230. It is still the most expensive city to rent a one-bedroom apartment in in Canada.

Being back in the top ten puts Oshawa ahead of cities like Edmonton, Regina, Quebec City and London.

Notable cities that dropped in rank were Kitchener, St. Catherine, and Regina.

The Rental Fairness Act, introduced by the Kathleen Wynne provincial government, restricts rent increases to 1.5 per cent, and also closed loopholes that allowed for larger rent increases in connection to the age of a building.
